THE 4 C'S OF DIAMONDS

THE 4 C'S OF DIAMONDS

EXPLAINED

Diamonds are graded across the world on standard parameters known as the 4 C's: Carat, Cut, Colour and Clarity. We're here to help you understand these details and choose the right solitaire for you.

CARAT

CARAT

The Carat refers to a diamond's weight, not its size. One carat equals 0.2 grams, roughly the weight of a small paper clip. While larger diamonds can appear more impressive, size alone doesn’t define beauty.

A diamond’s true brilliance comes from the harmony between carat, cut, colour, and clarity.

COLOUR

COLOUR

Diamond colour refers to the presence of subtle hues within the stone. The most valuable diamonds are typically colourless, allowing more light to pass through and enhance brilliance.

Colour is graded on a scale from D (completely colourless) to Z (noticeable tint), with higher grades appearing brighter and more radiant.

CLARITY

CLARITY

Clarity measures the presence of tiny natural characteristics inside or on the surface of a diamond, known as inclusions and blemishes. Most of these are invisible to the naked eye.

The fewer imperfections a diamond has, the higher its clarity grade and the more brilliant and pure it appears.

CUT

CUT

The Cut determines how well a diamond interacts with light. A well-cut diamond reflects light from one facet to another and back through the top, creating exceptional sparkle and brilliance.

Even with perfect colour and clarity, a poorly cut diamond may appear dull, while a well-cut diamond brings out the stone’s full fire and beauty.
